The Hipster Manifesto

The Hipster Manifesto

poem by Megan Dressler, age 17

Wake up & have a bowl of Nutella with your Cap’n Crunch.
Dishevel your hair so it doesn’t look like you care too much.
Wear jeans you haven’t washed since the beginning of time.
Add the ugly Christmas sweater even though it’s July.
Affix the thick rims
And hold your holy woven bracelets
Close to your heart; put those on, too.
Slip on your dirty shoes;
Turn up your Dave Matthews,
And remember the mantra that you hold closest to you:

Nothing is any good if other people like it.
