Young Authors of Arizona (YAA) invites Arizona’s grade 7-12 students to enter your original works in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awardsby December 15, 2016 (the 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards entry window).

Art Categories

Each of the Art Awards’ categories—Architecture,

Ceramics & Glass, Comic Art, Design, Digital Art, Fashion, Film & Animation, Jewelry, Mixed Media, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Art Portfolio—gives Arizona’s grade 7-12 students creative options to meet Common Core standards by sharing their original, technically proficient, and uncensored art.

Writing Categories

Each of the Writing Awards’ categories—critical essay, personal narrative/memoir, humor, journalism, poetry, flash fiction, short stories, science fiction/fantasy, scriptwriting, portfolio writing, novel writing—gives Arizona’s grade 7-12 students creative options to meet Common Core standards by sharing their original, technically proficient, and uncensored writing.

Benefits of participating

  • Earn scholarships for art and writing submissions.
  • Earn Honorable Mention, Silver Key, or Gold Key Certificate for the State of Arizona and an invite to YAA’s Scholastic Awards Ceremony in April of 2015.
  • Select Gold Key and Silver Key-winning compositions offered publication in the Best Arizona Teen Writing of 2015 book; 2015 “best of” art publication opportunities will also be available.
  • Educators can use Awards as a 1st semester tool for enrichment, PLC collaboration, and portfolio-based assessment of Common Core-aligned writing projects.
  • Educators earn professional development credit as a YAA volunteer judge from the comfort of home.
